The difference between TPK and TPACK is that TPK is knowing how to use technology in a general teaching context and it is non-specific in the teaching area, meaning the teaching strategies through technological use can apply for any area of content; TPACK is knowing how to use technology to support content-specific pedagogical strategies--"content-specific pedagogical strategies" meaning teaching methods where the students are discovering and collaboratively learning in a specific area of content according to the teacher's knowledge in technology.

An example of TPK in my discipline, Dance Education, would be a teacher (me) knowing how to use a Powerpoint presentation or any other program on a computer to show clips of dance videos and clips of performances in order to help the students learn.

An example of TPACK in Dance Education would be a content-domain oriented tool of knowing how to use a music burner which plays, burns, and cuts music. This would be useful for the teacher to use music for the dances that are being taught and copies of the music can be made for each of the students to take home and practice the dances.

Synchronous and Asynchronous Videos

Synchronous Google Video Chat:
Asynchronous Video:

I personally prefer the Synchronous Video Chat because you can see the person and talk to them instantly. I feel that this is more personal than an Asynchronous Video Message. However, as a dance instructor, I feel that an Asynchronous Video Message would work more effectively for the class because I could send a video message to all of my students at the same time. I would be able to use this is in my future classroom to update the students of upcoming practices, dance assignments, dance events, performances, new music, costumes, etc.

Tools and Webpage!

This week I learned how to embed a map from Google Map, how to embed a calendar from Google Calendar, how to embed a creatively made picture using Picnik, and how to embed a document from Google Docs on to the website that I have created. I think that all of these things on a website will be useful for my teaching career in dance because it will guide the students on what they should know for the class. It will be great for the students to see a calendar with all of their assignments due. I thought that all of the tools I used were at an equal challenge level. I didn't have problems using any of the tools. Here is a link to the website that I have started to create: http://chels75.pbworks.com/

Instructional Dance Video Idea

My idea for the instructional video is to demonstrate how to execute a correct jazz pirouette turn. I plan to either use an instructional video found online or to make it easier, create my own video on a digital camera giving and showing the instruction myself. I also hope to find a video of someone performing jazz pirouettes in a dance performance. Here is the Utah Core Curriculum link that I think is useful for this video I will be making: http://www.uen.org/core/dance/7-12.shtml.

What have I learned about RSS?

I found out that using an RSS feed can be very useful! Having information sent directly to you with all the updates coming right at you is awesome! I especially love finding RSS feeds associated with my discipline area: Dance Education. To find the RSS on a website, you need to look for a little icon, such as an orange one with lines on it. It is very easy to post on your blog, and I will start posting more and more throughout my blog usage and throughout my experiences in this IPT class!
